2009 Recipient Update
Dubuque Regional Humane Society
With some help from the Diamond Conservation Fund, we have raised the money to purchase 13 ½ acres behind the Star movie theatre, thus launching us into the next phase of our campaign to build a new shelter. This is enough area that even if we need to add on in the future we could do so. We will have a “members only” dog park, trails for our volunteers to walk our dogs on, a small barn for some of the farm animals and horses that we take in and a pond for practicing doc dogs and educational purposes. The new 38,000 square foot Animal Resource Center would have adequate space on one floor for all the offices, training center, spay/neuter clinic, retail store and all the animals. Thanks so much!

2010 Recipient Update
Sageville School

Our butterfly garden has been planted! Earlier this year Sageville School submitted a grant application to the Diamond Conservation Fund to construct a butterfly garden. This garden ties into many grade level science units at Sageville School. Second graders study life cycles and butterflies, first grade studies plant life and kindergarten studies trees during a science unit. This garden will allow every grade level to enhance their science learning through hands on work with our butterfly garden. We have many people to thank for their generosity – thank you to the Diamond Conservation Fund for their grant. Without this grant we would not have been able to complete our garden.

DNR Boys and Girls Conservation Camp

With the grant from the Diamond Conservation Fund, the Jackson County Pheasants Forever Chapter was able to send boys and girls from Jackson County to the Boys and Girls Conservation Camp. The Camp teaches young people outdoor skills including; hunter safety, archery, canoeing, wildlife identification, wildlife management, and a respect for our environment. Many of these young people would not have the opportunity to learn these skills and knowledge without going to the Camp. Thank you for providing these young people with opportunity to become conservationists for the rest of their lives.
“I would like to thank you for sending me to this camp, it was really cool. I really liked the Archery, shotgun shooting, muzzle loading, and bird banding.” Ben Clausen
“Thank you very, very much for sending me here. It means so much to me. I learned to shoot and load a muzzle loader. I even got to shoot at decoys with a bow and arrow. I learned about training a dog to pheasant hunt too! A lot of cool stuff. Everett Abernathy

“Thank you so much for sponsoring me! I wouldn’t have been able to have had so much fun without you. I passed my hunters safety, I got to do archery, canoe, fish, learn a lot about hunting, shoot guns and had amazing food. I met a lot of nice people and make a lot of new friends. I had a blast. “ Tori Dursky
“Thanks for much for sponsoring me. It helped me get my hunters safety and have so much fun. Things we got to do were shoot a .22 and a shotgun, archery, safety trail, wildlife ID, game sampling, dog training, duck calls, and much more. Thank you, I wouldn’t have been able to go with you.” Carli Strathman
